As a musician, I have been a teacher on and off throughout my adult life, starting as an apprentice tutor with my piano teacher in 1970. I have had many private students on guitar and piano over the years. In my IT career I gained a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and spent three years teaching Certificate and Diploma level IT. From 2016 yo 2018 I ran the music program at the Wonthaggi Community VCAL. Starting in 2017 I have been providing individual tuition on piano and guitar to students at Bass Valley Primary School. I have a current Working With Children check.
My philosophy with teaching music is to develop and share the joy of music with students in whatever way seems best for the individual student. We all have different interests and capabilities and I try to find the best path for each student to fulfil their own musical aspirations while extending their horizon of possibilities. One of the wonderful advantages of this approach is how much I learn myself.
I work with individual students at my studio in Blackwood Forest, 15 minutes from Wonthaggi and Grantville. I enjoy working with students of all ages, learning levels and capability. Sessions can be tailored to individual needs, may be regular weekly sessions or less frequently in a coaching mode. I also like to run occasional workshops for students to work together on particular musicianship or performance topics. Students who have an instrumental teacher may find it beneficial to work with me on practical aspects of musicianship and performance.
